Prayer of the Farm Workers' Struggle
Written by César E. Chavez, UFW Founder (1927-1993)

Show me the suffering of the most miserable;
So I will know my people's plight.
Free me to pray for others;
For you are present in every person.
Help me take responsibility for my own life;
So that I can be free at last.
Grant me courage to serve others;
For in service there is true life.
Give me honesty and patience;
So that the Spirit will be alive among us.
Let the Spirit flourish and grow;
So that we will never tire of the struggle.
Let us remember those who have died for justice;
For they have given us life.
Help us love even those who hate us;
So we can change the world
Amen

It is now the 19th day of our journey here on the Longest Walk 2 and I personally have learned so much. I have come to realize the impact that one voice can have on a group of people, on a community, on a nation, and on the world. Listening to the words of many great leaders, such as Cesar E. Chavez and Deloris Huerta, and learning from the struggles they faced is inspiring. Their families are so full of love in welcoming all of us into their home. I know that everyone's spirits have been touched since the arrival of this peaceful and sacred land, La Paz. Leading non-violent life is something we all should really consider, along with altering our dialogue and tolerance that we have with one another.

I have learned a lot from the people that share a part of the sacred circle with me each morning. And I'll be honest, I don't know all of their names yet, but I'm getting there. I am pretty sure that I can speak for everyone when I say that we all have grown as individuals, and as stronger family. A few people have left our circle, some due to unfortunate circumstances, but I do believe that the creator has a different path for them to take and maybe this wasn't a part of it. We all have to learn to grow from the events that we have been thrown into, and with the words and strength of the great leaders around us then we will prevail and come out as stronger and better people than we already were.

There were some tragic events that happened back at home last Wednesday, and hearing about them really torn me up inside. There is just so much violence in the world these days; fathers abusing mothers, mothers abusing fathers, parents abusing children, children abusing parents, adults and children abusing elders, physically, sexually, and verbally. I am walking against all of that abuse that is in the world, I am walking for peace, I am walking for LOVE, I am walking for my people and the promise that I made to them. And when there is so much violence back home it really wounds my spirit. Violence in the world today can be prevented, if we all just work together. We need to show compassion, understanding, and we all need to be honest. And after learning about Cesar Chavez and all that he accomplished, I do believe that one person can make a difference. I believe that my journey here on The Longest Walk 2 will in the end help me become that much stronger of a person so that I can go back home and spread the teachings that I have learned and adopted, such as a non-violent approach to everything.

I do believe that Love Is THE Movement, it really can cure anything and hopefully it will save the earth, because that IS why I'm on this journey. So I plan on continuing to share the love that I have in my heart with everyone that I come in contact with and hopefully, one day it will catch on with those who share a part in my life. I do miss home, mostly the love of my family, but it's ok. I'm alright; I'm starting a new family here, on the road.

Si Se Puede! I love you all. It's getting late so this is Goodnight. Peace
