After a long day of walking, the Southern Walkers were hosted for a dinner by the Baha'i Faith Community Center. The center founders introduced themselves and cooked a hot meal for all walkers. The center's leader and staff introduced themselves and congratulated the walkers on their journey.
Many of the walkers rested in the grass outside in front of the center, while others found solace on the cushy couches in the main room area. Soup, fresh salmon, whitefish, salad, rice, and corn stew were all among items served. All walkers and center particpants intermingled and served food or cleaned up together.
Wounded Knee offerred some words prior to dinner and the prayer was translated into Japanese for those walkers. All walkers formed a circle prior to prayer and reviewed some items of concern from the road. The traffic flag leaders communicated how important it was for the walkers to stay together and close to the side of the road and to pay attention at all times. Dennis and Wounded Knee reiterated the teaching of that when one is carrying a staff, that one is in prayer.
As dinner progressed, walkers sat together and shared stories about their lives. One young lady walker heard about the walk last week and just packed up her things and is planning to go the whole way. I met walkers from Japan, Michigan, Upstate New York, Minnesota, Kentucky and more! All directions.
As we left the center to go to camp for the evening, I couldn't help notice a Christian center across the street- it was called "Destiny Christian Center." I thought, hmmm, ''Destiny''...as I watched the Buddhist Nuns and Monks walk toward the center where people were waiting for some kind of their own event.
It was a perfect photo.
Prayers for walkers,
Brita
