The walkers were sent off with many blessings. The drum circle sang the AIM song, the women sang loud with heart behind them, prayer with eagle feather to send them on their journey safely- The Journey Continues!
Dennis Banks commenced a countdown for the walkers to start, 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,niijh, behjiig,....there they go! The walkers started from steps to capital avenue- a stream of colors and flags moving like water down the canal of gray buildings. Jimbo led the walkers with flag, the staff was carried, empty now, but by DC to be filled with flags from all places travelled on this journey. An eagle staff was carried and passed, each one received a teaching that when carrying the staff, one is to be in prayer and focused on this while walking. That it is an honor.
As the walkers moved down the avenue, people peeked out storefronts, looked from cars, honked in support, and were informed of the cause. I ran into a native couple who saw the walkers and asked what was happening. I explained and said 'join in!'.
Volunteers would stop by with water, fruit and nourishment as the walkers moved down folsom avenue. An advance team did a great job of looking at the route and guiding the walkers through difficult areas. The walkers beat their drum and sang as they would pass. Flags staffs, colors moving through time. At one stop we saw a hawk fly over us, as though to say..."yes I see you, yes I hear you, yes I approve, thank you, thank you, thank you, heal us, heal us, help us." I dropped some seema to give thanks to hawk.
The sun was starting its descent to slumber as the walkers concluded, a total of 7 spiritual miles was walked today, but it felt more like 7 million miles for all our relations and mother earth. Thats a lot of walking.
The white rose bus pulled up and the walkers closed with a circle talk and closing prayer. Plans for next day, lessons learned, and prayer words from elder woman in the language. All were smudged, and prayed as the sun said goodnight. Tired and sore, but ready to begin anew the next morning.
Won't you join us on this road?
We will be there waiting for you and walking for you and all before and all to come ahead.
Sleep well walkers.
