The South Route of the walk is growing and will be needing another bus to replace one that has left. If anyone out there has a bus to lend, we will need on from somewhere in Oklahoma all the way to DC. Please contact us if you have one to lend or donate.
The North Route bus and two transport vehicles broke down and they are in need of cash to repair or replace them. Currently they have rented a van, and are in dire need on money.
On Feb. 11th, Longest Walk participants embarked on a 5 month journey from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. arriving on July 11th. The Longest Walk south route is being led by AIM co-founder Dennis J. Banks. It is an extraordinary grassroots effort on a national level to bring attention to the environmental disharmony of Mother Earth, sacred site issues, and to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original longest walk. LOS ANGELES - Floyd Red Crow Westerman, Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota musician, actor, and activist, passed away at 5 a.m. PST at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after an extended illness. He was 72.
Some of the participants of the Longest Walk 2008 will be sharing what they experience in both words and pictures.
